Kristen + Ben photographed by Josh Goleman

Josh Goleman recently shot a truly magical wedding at Oz Farm in Sea Ranch, CA.  This one was such a beauty we thought it would be fitting to get some words from the bride herself about her day and some of the thought that went into putting it all together. Congratulations to Kristen + Ben!

Oz Farm was the first and only venue we looked at. It was rustic for sure, but truly a magical place. It’s a real working farm with a barn, a redwood grove, a community house, a stream to swim in and cabins to stay in.

The photographer was chosen the same way. Josh Goleman was the only photographer we contacted and signed him up without even bothering to look at anyone else. Not only is he enormously talented, he was such a fantastic presence at our wedding. So many guests came up to me afterward to tell me how much they liked him. I can’t remember a wedding where I even knew the photographer’s name, much less became friends with him. The photos he took take my breath away every time I look at them.

Rather than do the DJ thing, we had a square dance, and it was more fun than we even anticipated. I saw people like my uncle and little cousins all get up and dance who never would have danced otherwise. No one really knew what they were doing, but everyone had fun. The bluegrass band was the Knuckle Knockers out of San Francisco, and the caller was Evie Ladin of the Stairwell Sisters.

We wanted everything to be very personal, so we designed everything ourselves and made as many things from scratch as possible. This required us to learn to sew on an ancient Singer sewing machine to make the runners, and learn how to use a Gocco, a small out-of-production silkscreen printer.  The other paper and wood items were printed using my Epson printer. We had no idea how many hours this would entail, but we’re so happy with how everything turned out. When we couldn’t make something ourselves, we tried to use as many independent vendors as possible and many were from Etsy.

Thanks for sharing Kristen!
